Climate, environmental pollution and degradations of the eco-systems are critical challenges of our modern society with pollutant gases emitted from marine thermal engines identified as main causes.
New projects and international research invest on how to enable low-carbon energy transitions based on renewable-energy technologies such as wind turbines, solar panels, biogas plants or geothermal plants starting from the high demands of electric energy in mainland distribution, transportation needs adopting electrical vehicles as well as “electrification” of shipping and ship port domains.
